Track and field club begins community fundraiser for track project in Parksville

Oceanside Track and Field Club held successful bottle drive, generating $2,700 that it will donate to the Oceanside Community Track project.

The club raised the cash to help kickstart the community fundraising for the proposed six-lane rubber track at Ballenas Secondary, that will cost $1.5 million.

“The bottle drive was a huge success,” said Jane Waite, Oceanside Track and Field Club. “We had an incredible team that helped throughout the day and even residents dropping off bottles got stuck in. We greatly appreciate everyone’s help.

“The spirit of the community to get this track funded is nothing short of amazing. We want to thank the Parkville Recycling Depot for hosting us, the community who brought their recycling and those who donated directly. We also want to thank the young lady who gave us $5 out of her own pocket money to support the track. It was so heartwarming and such a lovely gesture.”

Oceanside Track and Field Club is now registered with the Parksville Recycling Depot so supporters who would like to continue to donate to the new track can give the club’s name when bringing their recycling to the depot.

To support the track directly, there is a community GoFundMe page at oceansidecommunitytrack.ca/donate

For those looking to get fit, they can join Team Red and get sponsored for any walks or runs they do. To learn more, visit oceansidecommunitytrack.ca/join.
